I’m not one to overhype things, but we have had a ton of snow so far this season. After a big teaser storm in early October with the remains of that still on the upper elevations, we had a series of storms over Thanksgiving weekend and just concluded another storm cycle a couple days ago. Park City Resort has already opened about 1/3 of their terrain, and they’ve been opening new terrain every day. The snow is cold and skis great, both on groomed runs and off-trail. Deer Valley opens for the season on Saturday and should have similar conditions.
I got lucky on Monday and got to the top of the Tombstone chair on the Canyons side right when they dropped the rope for the first time this season, and I got to ski 2 feet of virgin powder. Can’t say you’ll get that every day, but having that opportunity is a perk of living here. The expert 9990 chair on the Canyons side opened yesterday, and the Thaynes chair on the Park City side is scheduled to open today. They should have all terrain open by Chistmas week. Already, about half of the ski-in/ski-out terrain in The Colony is open, and the rest should come online soon. Last year was a tough year for snow, but I can tell you first hand that off-trail terrain is already skiing better than at any time last year. And we’re only 2 weeks into the season!
It’s still early and things can certainly change, but it’s a great start and it’s skiing great right now. Another storm cycle is scheduled to start in about a week, so we’ll see. Think snow!
P.S. For those of you who are curious about Park City but have never skied here, this view shows about 10% of the terrain. Park City Resort is massive!
